PERSONALITY:
*Friendly: Wei Wuxian is incredibly friendly and quick to talk to strangers casually. He can strike up a conversation with anyone and generally leaves a good impression. He can be very flirty in his interactions and will try and give small gifts when he parts, especially to women. This isn’t so much because he is interested in them, as much as trying to make their time worthwhile. It’s a tactic he picked up that helps gain information, and in the past was to be remembered by others.
*Mischievous: Wei Wuxian loves to play jokes and get into trouble. One of the things he first liked about Lan Wangji was to tease him to get a reaction out of him. His favorite past times when he was young was to steal lotus seed pods and play pranks on others. Even as an adult he buries A-Yuan in the dirt and tells him he will grow with enough sun and water. He is no different after his resurrection, taking opportunities to mess with the juniors. One instance is telling them something amazing was outside and having them look expectantly only to be scared by a ghost. To be fair, there was a point to what he was doing, but he went about it in the most startling way possible because it was fun.
*Honorable: He doesn’t forget the debts he owes or the people who have done him well. He respects Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu for raising him and takes to heart his duty to protect Jiang Cheng. His willingness to uphold this is what makes him so determined to give Jiang Cheng his golden core. This is also what has him help Wen Qing to try and save Wen Ning. Despite Wen Qing telling him, there was no debt between them, she still did right by him and he was going to return it.
*Hot-tempered: Wei Wuxian has a bad temper, though it’s easy to forget since he is usually pretty laid back. His temper is the worst after he lost his core and practiced Demonic Cultivation heavily, however it was also pretty bad as a teenager. A few bad words against his sect sister Jaing Yanli and he punches and starts a fight with her fiance Jin Zixuan. Later on, his inability to think of him as anything but an enemy gets the man killed. As an adult, he is calmer, but there are still times when he wants to go lash out when upset, as seen after his experience with getting Lan Wangji drunk the third time.
*Oblivious: Wei Wuxian is completely oblivious to the feelings of others when it involves himself. It is the leading problem to his constant misunderstandings with Lan Wangji that only get resolved because a third party flat out states facts for him. It also does not help some of the tension that grows between him and Jiang Cheng.
*Carefree: In general Wei Wuxian is a pretty carefree person, he won’t dwell on the past and keeps himself pretty rooted in the present. That isn’t to say things don’t stick with him, but he tries his best not to let it show. He is the sort of person that once his wounds heal he forgets what the pain was. So once things are good for him, he will forget when things were bad. This does lead to him making some of the same mistakes over and over.
*Vengeful: His most vengeful was when he was practicing Demonic Cultivation without a golden core. Though he generally has no reason to be like this, later on, the ability to do these things is within him. He is not above torturing his enemies and making them suffer in terrifying ways.
*Self Sacrificing: Wei always attempts to be the hero at the cost of himself. He never considers the price he might pay or others might pay with his actions when trying to do the right thing. The biggest indicator of this is when he stood up for Lan Wangji during the Tortoise of Slaughter and also jumped in front of Mianmian to take a branding in her stead. We also see the same self-sacrificing nature when giving Jiang Cheng his golden core. It isn’t until Wen Qing and Wen Ning decide to sacrifice themselves for him does he understand how his actions hurt those he’s close to.
*Insecure: Despite how he acts he is not a secure person. His bravado and carefree attitude give the impression of confidence. In a way, he does have confidence, but none emotionally. His self-defense method is to push his feelings aside and ignore them, to avoid problems and not address them. If he pretends they don’t exist, they must not exist! In the past, his insecurities and unstableness led to his gruesome death as he fell apart and lost control of his powers. As an adult and resurrected it leads to various misunderstandings and the unwillingness to try and correct them. The number one thing is not wanting to admit to his feelings for Lan Wangji and not wanting to properly ask what Lan Wangji’s feelings were for him. His fear that he would hear an answer he didn’t want to hear lead him to make the entire situation more complicated.
Empathic: Wei Wuxian can quickly bond with others, feel for their plight and understand where they are coming from. With some people, he will feel a great closeness to them such as with A-Qing after seeing her memories and emotions, and Xiao Xingchen and how such a kind and noble person was done so wrongly. In other situations, he will understand why someone might have done something, or realize their motivations. Such as with Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao, though with them he does not forgive them their actions, nor does he sympathize with them. Though his feelings towards Jin Guangyao are a bit more neutral than Xue Yang whom he hates.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
*Potential to form a Golden Core: The body Wei Wuxian inhabits belonged to a low-level cultivator named Mo Xuanyu who lacked the aptitude to create a golden core. However, with Lan Wangji's help innate ability of the body is not an issue and with time can be formed through the help of dual cultivation. (I can remove this entirely if it doesn't work.)
*Demonic Cultivation: Wei Wuxian was the founder of Demonic Cultivation which allows him to control ghosts and spirits and the dead. However, at this canon point, he uses it very little, only dabbling in blood-based skills and controlling the dead through song simply to calm them down or send them away. But since he invented and refined most of the techniques he can get a lot stronger results with less than others who attempt it.
*Paper Metamorphosis: A dark art though not exclusive to Demonic Cultivation. The transferring of one’s soul to a paper man. A good method for spying and infiltration.
*Empathy: A general spell everyone knows, but it is very risky so people generally avoid it. Wei Wuxian is very good at it and will not shy away from using it. It works by linking one’s soul to another and living through their memories. This skill is usually used on the dead to learn complex information that may be hard to explain through other means.
*Six Arts: He is educated in Archery, Rites, Music, Charioteering, Calligraphy, and Mathematics. He excels pretty much at all of them, he is one of the best archers of his generation, and he is known to play the dizi very well. He has a perfect pitch memory for music, being able to play songs he has heard once without any mistake.
