Character Info
Name: Wei Wuxian
Canon: Mo Dao Zu Shi
Canon Point: After Lan Wangji is drunk for the third time.
Age: Physically mid 20s, Mentally mid 30s.

Background:
https://modao-zushi.fandom.com/wiki/Wei_Wuxian

Personality:
Those who meet Wei Wuxian would describe him as someone easy to get along with. He is carefree, friendly and full of energy. He has a boyish mischievous charm to him and is good at making friends and acquaintances. He is flirty and charming, and even when he’s annoying he is generally hard to ignore. He’s the sort of person you will remember later, either because you like him, or you hate him.

And though generally, he is a pretty carefree soul, that isn’t everything to him. Under it all he has a lingering sadness, and various traumas. He tends to smile even when he’s hurt or upset and retreats into himself rather than rely on others. He’ll die on a hill for his principles, and is stubborn to the last moment. He brushes off his feelings to focus on others, giving more than he has to give to the point of breaking. He’s not good at sharing his burdens or expressing them. Though he has gotten better with age (and his relationship with Lan Wangji has helped balance his tendencies a lot) he still has a bad habit of keeping things to himself unless prompted.

When Wei Wuxan was a teenager he was very arrogant and overconfident, he was like most young people, feeling as if he could accomplish or overcome anything that came his way. He broke rules without care, started fights when insulted, assumed he could overcome anything. (That isn’t to say he doesn’t still have a lot of these traits later in life, but they are more mellowed out. He still is bad with rules, but his arrogance is more of a confidence in his skills and experiences.)

This sense of being invincible bites him sooner than later, however. He feels as if no matter what he will always be fine, and that he can always figure out a way to deal with whatever happens. Due to his strong loyalty and his self-sacrificing tendencies giving away his core is one of the worst mistakes he makes and it harms him deeply.

Wei Wuxian is good at taking charge in dire situations, he was able to do it when Lotus Pier was destroyed and his adoptive parents were killed. In the present time, he was also good at taking charge of the juniors and making sure none of them ever got hurt when situations were beyond their ability to deal with. He even tried his best to take charge when protecting the remnants of the Wen clan. (Though to be fair one could say Wen Qing did that better.)

Either way, he has a strong protective streak within him. He will sacrifice himself for the well being of others, not even thinking of the repercussions of his actions until long after it’s too late. His impulsiveness mixed with this tendency is even worse and does cause problems for himself and others.

It is this sort of behavior that has him give his golden core to Jiang Cheng. Feeling Jiang Cheng will be unable to live without one, while he should be fine because he doesn’t care that much. This is a lie or more at the time a concept he had no way of knowing the truth of. In reality, he was not OK and simply tried to hide it. But during the darkest time of his life, there was no one there to support him. After going through three months of trauma, letting rage and despair fill him, he started to lose control of his emotions.

Wei Wuxian tried to take on too much at a young age, and it destroyed him. His insecurities were magnified and his choices only made him more isolated. The more isolated he became the worse his mental stability got. The climax of it all, however, was when Jiang Yanli died. With her loss he simply lashed out trying to kill everyone around him, his mind broke and at that point, he might as well have died too.

To this day Wei Wuxian can’t remember everything that happened during that time.

It isn’t until he is resurrected into the body of Mo Xuanyu that he is restored to his more natural temperament. The negative energies that affected him mentally and spiritually are no longer an issue, and he is a lot more carefree again. However, he has the bonus of being older. Even though he was dead for thirteen years, he did manage to mature a little and be an almost respectable adult.

Wei Wuxian despite being incredibly observant and highly intelligent is very oblivious and stupid when it comes to his feelings and feelings directed at him. He is constantly asking himself why he feels happy when he thinks of Lan Wangji and never once questions what that means, instead of filing it away as a curiosity and then not dwelling on it. And then when he starts to realize his feelings he is too scared to talk about them or express them. Instead of trying to assume what the other is feeling. Somehow despite his wonderful observational skills, he is incapable of figuring out how Lan Wangji feels and in the end needs an intervention to sort things out.

In the end, once things are sorted out and he has the support of Lan Wangji he does start to mellow out a bit. Not entirely though, he will always be carefree and a bit of a brat, but he does try harder to do things he doesn’t like, and he is more responsible. Finally, in a secure environment, he no longer has fears and no longer tries to carry his burdens alone. He was given a second chance and he does take the lessons of his first life to heart. Maybe not removing all bad habits, but at least growing a bit more than he had before.

Powers:
*Potential to form a Golden Core: The body Wei Wuxian inhabits belonged to a low-level cultivator named Mo Xuanyu who lacked the aptitude to create a golden core. However, with dual cultivation forming a golden core is possible.

*Demonic Cultivation: Wei Wuxian was the founder of Demonic Cultivation which allows him to control ghosts and spirits and the dead. However, at this canon point, he uses it very little, only dabbling in blood-based skills and controlling the dead through song simply to calm them down or send them away. But since he invented and refined most of the techniques he can get a lot stronger results with less than others who attempt it.

*Paper Metamorphosis: A dark art though not exclusive to Demonic Cultivation. The transferring of one’s soul to a paper man. A good method for spying and infiltration.

*Empathy: A general spell everyone knows, but it is very risky so people generally avoid it. Wei Wuxian is very good at it and will not shy away from using it. It works by linking one’s soul to another and living through their memories. This skill is usually used on the dead to learn complex information that may be hard to explain through other means.

*Six Arts: He is educated in Archery, Rites, Music, Charioteering, Calligraphy, and Mathematics. He excels pretty much at all of them, he is one of the best archers of his generation, and he is known to play the dizi very well. He has a perfect pitch memory for music, being able to play songs he has heard once without any mistake.

*Daoist Magic: The use of spiritual powers and talismans and other such elemental alchemy. It’s a given in cultivator stories though is never defined in any particular way. Wei Wuxian is not capable of doing most of it, as his spiritual power is not night enough, but he can do small things.

Inventory:
His sword Suibian (Spiritual sword)
Bamboo Dizi
Qiankun bag: Basic supplies for traveling with some rations and first aid.
Spirit-Trapping Bag: Used to hold spirits, can hold a shattered soul without letting it scatter. Currently holds a few ghosts useful for small spells.
